Stock market today The US stock market closed higher today, the first trading session of December 2020. S&P 500 and Nasdaq made record closing highs. The figures at the close of the US stock market today: S&P 500: 3,662.45,+40.82(+1.13%)Dow 30: 29,823.92,+185.28(+0.63%)Nasdaq: 12,355.11,+156.37(+1.28%)Russell 2000: 1,836.05,+16.23(+0.89%) stock market news “Stocks rose Tuesday, and each of the three major indices hit fresh intraday records, as traders looked to extend November’s sharp advance. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each also hit record closing highs after jumping by more than 1.1% each. The tech-heavy communication services and financials sectors led the day’s advances in the S&P 500. Equities kicked off the final month of 2020 with momentum from a record November, during which each of the three major indices made fresh record highs, and the Dow posted its biggest monthly gain since January 1987 with an advance of nearly 11.9%. In the S&P 500, the energy, financials and industrials sectors led the index’s 10.8% rise, as traders rotated back into many of the names that had been beaten down the hardest earlier on during the pandemic. Many analysts believe equities will continue to ride a wave of vaccine-related optimism into December, after Pfizer (PFE), Moderna (MRNA) and AstraZeneca (AZN) each reported promising efficacy data for their respective COVID-19 vaccine candidates. Developments in the race to create an inoculation against the coronavirus helped stocks shake off volatility from earlier on in the month.” Stock market data: Yahoo Finance

Amazon (AMZN) stock news “Amazon’s business practices examined by two U.S. states. (Reuters) – State investigators in both California and Washington are examining Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s business practices, two newspapers reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The inquiries focus at least in part on how Amazon treats sellers in its online marketplace, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times (NYSE:NYT) reported on Friday. Amazon declined to comment on the report of an investigation by California. It was not immediately available for comment outside regular market hours on the Washington review report. The reports said California state is reviewing Amazon’s practices on selling its own products in competition with third-party vendors. Amazon said its in-house products only account for about 1% of its total annual retail sales. Washington state is also investigating whether Amazon makes it harder for sellers to list their products on other websites, the NYT reported. Investing for beginners Why should you invest money? This article is a guide for new investors, covering important sections to consider when deciding to invest money, starting with an investment policy statement and deciding how much money to invest, what financial markets to choose and ending with a few important tips. Why invest money in the financial markets The answer is to build your wealth, grow your income for retirement, have the financial freedom to achieve your goals and dreams, build wealth for your children, make us of the compound returns. The most common mistake new investors make is not getting knowledge about the risks and investing in financial assets they do not understand or are not suitable for their investment profile. What is the first thing all new investors should do? Write an investment policy statement What is an investment policy statement? It is a statement that defines in written the investment risks, returns and constraints related to any investor’s profile. If you are a new investor you should write down what is the level of risk, you want to undertake. What are the required returns per year? What are your constraints, such as liquidity, time horizon, taxes, legal, regulatory? Any reasons that you do not want to invest in any specific financial asset, for example, cryptocurrencies. With the investment policy statement, you will write and set your goals and what you want to achieve in investing. A roadmap not to get lost. Where to invest money? There are plenty of investment vehicles that beginners can use to increase their wealth, such as stocks, bonds, ETFs, Forex, CFDs, commodities, even cryptocurrencies. Almost all of these investment options offer the potential to earn a much higher rate of returns compared with a savings account. But there is something to always remember, that they also involve different degrees of risk. Assuming you have written your investment policy statement you are now familiar with the risk of the financial assets such as equities, bonds, commodities. For new investors, these three asset classes are more than enough to cover all their investing needs. What investment returns can you expect? The answer is not as much as possible, because this is both naïve and involves a lot of risks. The real answer is a yearly return that is logical, covers the inflation rate, compensates for the risk and will help you achieve your goals, such as retire in 30 years. A return of about 5%-10% is both realistic and not an abnormal one. How much money should beginners invest? There are many theories about this answer. In general, the more capital you can invest, the better, assuming you do not take excessive risk. You can decide how much money to invest depending on 3 factors: Your financial goals How much you can afford to invest and when Your risk tolerance for all financial assets Your financial goals to achieve Simple answers to questions like what are your financial goals, why are you investing? For what reason will you need money for in the future can help you decide the exact money to invest. You can start investing 5% or 10% of your net income as a starting point. And increase that over time if you can help you achieve your financial goals faster. Investment time frames can also affect risk tolerance. If you are 60-year old and plan to retire in 5 years and have never invested before then you should only think very conservative. Invest in bonds and stocks that offer an attractive dividend yield, and only a small amount of your total capital. If you are 30-year old, then you can take more risks to grow your wealth over time. When should you start investing? The answer is as fast as possible. Even with small amounts of money. The power of cumulative returns is that it is always best to start investing as soon as possible. Assuming you can achieve a 5% return per year missing 3 years of investing will result in missing about a 15% increase in your net wealth. It will be marginally more than 15%. Tips to get started with investing Invest always for the long-term and try to contribute over time capital to your investment portfolio. Manage your investment risks and diversify them as well Regularly monitor your investments, at least one time per month and make well-informed financial decisions after getting enough of education on various financial assets Balance investment risk and reward to achieve your goals and do not get disappointed with the results Understand your investment options and choose wisely the ones that fit into your profile as a new investor When to not Invest You should never invest money you can’t afford to lose. If you will need money in one year from now maybe the idea of investing in stocks is too risky. Always think that risks exist in the financial markets and can reduce your capital at any time. What is the best investment strategy? A long-term approach to investing, with the ability to withstand losses and give plenty of time to your capital to grow at its highest level. In this article, we mention how to invest money for beginners, investing in stocks for beginners, how to invest in the stock market for beginners, how to invest in stocks for beginners with little money, good investments for beginners, where to invest money to get good returns. US stock market A stock market rally today for the first hour of the trading session. At 10:20 AMTuesday, April 14, 2020, Eastern Time (ET) the US stock market is up: S&P 500: 2,842.52,+80.89(+2.93%)Dow 30: 24,027.32,+636.55(+2.72%)Nasdaq: 8,470.90,+278.47(+3.40%)Russell 2000: 1,246.96,+34.92(+2.88%) US stock market earnings season has started, results are supposed to be very bad, yet stocks rally This is not justified from a fundamental analysis. “JPMorgan warns of ‘fairly severe recession,’ increases credit reserves by $6.8 billion“ “JPMorgan Chase (JPM), the largest U.S. bank by assets, kicked off earnings season for the big banks on Tuesday by announcing that it set aside billions in anticipation of loan losses. “In the first quarter, the underlying results of the company were extremely good, however given the likelihood of a fairly severe recession, it was necessary to build credit reserves of $6.8B, resulting in total credit costs of $8.3B for the quarter,” CEO Jamie Dimon said in his commentary. Here were the key figures versus the expectations for the first quarter, according to analysts polled by Bloomberg. Revenue (adjusted): $29.07 billion vs $29.52 billion expected Earnings per share (adjusted): $0.78 vs $2.14 per share expected The market isn’t putting much weight into how the actual results performed against analysts’ expectations as the impact of coronavirus pandemic has been extremely difficult to measure. To be sure, a key reason EPS was much lower than a year ago is because of the bank building its credit reserves.” At 10:25 AM today JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) stock price it at 97.29-0.90 (-0.92%). Wells Fargo (WFC) stock news “(Bloomberg) — Wells Fargo & Co.’s credit costs surged in the first quarter, previewing a tough year at the helm for new Chief Executive Officer Charlie Scharf as the coronavirus pandemic brings the U.S. economy to a virtual standstill. The firm set aside $4 billion in loan-loss provisions in the first quarter, almost five times what it allocated a year ago and the most in a decade. That contributed to an 89% drop in net income. “ Source: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/wells-fargo-sets-aside-most-122957001.html Stock market news For now poor or bad economic news and economic outlook, as we are in the earnings season seem to be ignored by investors. This does not make sense. But we have to wait for more companies to release their quarterly earnings to get a more precise picture of the coronavirus effects on the earnings. US stock futures erase their previous gains, now focus is on the stimulus package reached for the US economy The US stock market today will place importance on the stimulus package reached to support the US economy and on the economic news released the durable goods orders, before the open of the trading session. The forecast for the monthly durable goods orders figure is -1.0%. Any worse than expected reading may be negative for stocks today. The stock market continues to be to a very large degree uninvestable as volatility remains at very high levels. As of 8:05 AM, Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Eastern Time (ET) the Vix index is at 68.77 +7.18(+11.66%). This sustained extreme volatility needs to be reduced so that a more clear picture is made about whether a bottom was formed in the previous trading sessions or not. Any decisions for stocks to buy or stocks to sell now favor short-term trading. This is because strong gains tend to give way to profit-taking selloffs, and we need to see the real implications of the coronavirus effects with the actual release of stock earnings. NIKE, Inc. (NKE) stock earnings “Nike, Inc (NKE) reported better-than-expected quarterly revenue as digital demand offset a sales decline in China resulting from the coronavirus shutdowns. Revenues for the third quarter ended Feb. 29, rose 5% to $10.1 billion as overall digital growth increased 36% during the same period, the company said late on Tuesday. Greater China revenues dropped for the first time in 22 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth, declining 4% during the period. Diluted earnings per share slid 22 percent to $0.53.” Stock market data: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/nike-beats-quarterly-revenue-estimates-074333827.html Nike stock closed at 72.33+9.53 (+15.18%), on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. If we see soon more companies reporting better than expected earnings, then there could be great chances for a stock market bottom to have been made at these price levels. The fundamental news and other news related to fiscal policy, and hopefully any positive news related to the coronavirus outbreak are key catalysts.
