IBM STOCK NEWS IBM reported third straight quarter of revenue declines. “International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) reported its fiscal Q3 2020 earnings after close of trading Monday. IBM stock is down 6.5% in response as of 11 a.m. EDT today despite nailing the analysts’ consensus earnings target, and surpassing it on revenue. Expected to earn $2.58 per share, IBM matched that on a pro forma basis. It beat the consensus estimate of $17.5 billion in revenue, at $17.6 billion. While IBM beat estimates, its revenue still declined by 2.6%. Although that wasn’t a lot, it was the company’s third straight quarter of declining sales. Earnings calculated according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) didn’t come close to matching the company’s headline pro forma number. GAAP profits from continuing operations were only a diluted $1.89 per share. But this was a $0.02 improvement (1.1%) over last year’s Q3 number.” Stock market data: Fool At 3:13 PM, ET time today, October 20, 2020, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) stock was at 117.05-8.47 (-6.75%). Stock market volatility index VIX reached the highest level in history as Dow plunged almost 3,000 points ” A measure of implied volatility on Wall Street touched its highest level in history as all three stock benchmarks plunged by at least 12% Monday, marking one of the worst declines for equities in a generation, as fears about a long, hard slog with COVID-19, the infectious disease that originated in China last year, slammed assets considered risky. The CBOE Volatility Index jumped by about 44% in a single session, to close above 82, marking its highest finish in history, surpassing two readings of 80 that it registered during the 2008 financial crisis, if the index holds at that level. The index, also known as the VIX, for its ticker symbol, has become well known as Wall Street’s “fear gauge,” since it was created in the early 1990s. The VIX is a gauge of investor expectations for stock-market turbulence in the coming 30-day period, tracking S&P 500 index options contracts and had traded at a historic average between 19 and 20. Because the index often rises as stocks fall, it is viewed as a hedge against market turbulence. On Monday, turbulence was rampant as President Donald Trump issued new guidelines in dealing with the virus, including limiting gatherings to fewer than 10 people. He also said that the pandemic could be an issue for the U.S. into July, killing any hopes for a conclusion to the threat once the weather warms. The comments helped drag the Dow Jones Industrial Average down by 2,997.10 points, or 12.93%, to 20,188.52, the S&P 500 index dropped 11.98% to 2,386.13, while the Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 12.32% to 6,904, marking that technology-heavy index’s worst one-day fall in its history. For the S&P 500 it was their third worst day in its record and for the Dow, it was the second worst point decline in history. “ Source: https://finance.yahoo.com/m/b1a7ecc9-84cb-39bd-be21-2592f382dd5c/wall-street-s-fear-index-.html Stock market data: Yahoo Finance Trading and Investing Check this link if you are interested in trading.

Airlines American Airlines (AAL) and United Airlines Holdings (UAL) are moving forward with a collective 32,000 job cuts after contingencies tied to federal coronavirus relief aid they received earlier this year expired on Wednesday. And a host of companies across industries announced new forthcoming job cuts this week, indicating that the historic workforce reductions taking place earlier this year amid the pandemic had not finished yet. Disney (DIS) said Tuesday it would be cutting 28,000 workers across its resort business, and insurance giant Allstate (ALL) on Wednesday announced an about 8% workforce reduction impacting some 3,800 jobs. Goldman Sachs (GS) is also reportedly looking to cut about 400 jobs, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, and the oil major Shell (RDS-B) announced plans to cut up to 9,000 jobs by 2022. The labor market reports Thursday and Friday did not and will not capture these planned layoffs. The Labor Department’s weekly jobless claims report Thursday morning showed that another 837,000 people filed first-time unemployment insurance claims for the week ended Sept. 26. That was below consensus forecasts of 850,000 and a marginal improvement from the previous week’s 870,000 — but the fifth straight week that new claims totaled fewer than 1 million. Meanwhile, Friday’s monthly jobs report – the last before the election – is expected to show a fifth straight month of net payroll gains, with consensus economists looking for 868,000 jobs to have come back in September.” Stock market data: Yahoo Finance stocks today Stocks that moved today, were trending stocks: Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. Tesla (TSLA) stock made a new 52-week and closed above the $1,500 for the first time ever Investing in stocks, choosing stocks to buy, stocks to sell is not an easy task. Speculators ignore the fundamentals of stocks and buy or sell stocks only to profit from short-term price movements. This is the game of the stock market. Tesla (TSLA) stock on Friday, July 10, 2020, made a new 52-week high and closed at 1,544.65,+150.37 (+10.78%). Why I believe Tesla (TSLA) stock is extremely overvalued and a financial bubble Two reasons: 1.Net income 2. Free cash flows After 10 years of going public Tesla (TSLA) struggles to make a profit. And yet some Wall street analysts increase their price target on Tesla. For the years 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 the net income (in thousands) for Tesla was -862,000, -976,091 ,-1,961,400, and -674,914 respectively. The free cash flows (in thousands) for the same years were 968,000, -221,714, -4,142,008 and -1,564,300 respectively. Turning to the quarterly numbers for the free cash flows, the figures for the last 4 quarters were -921,000, 976,000, ,346,400 and 590,399. Stock market data: Yahoo Finance The market is pushing Tesla stock higher on hopes and expectations of an inclusion soon in the S&P 500 based on profitability for the last 4 quarters. Even if this is the case the valuation of Tesla stock to my financial analysis does not justify this stock price, and is too overvalued. The catalyst that Tesla will be a dominant player in the electric cars is not credible as competition is too intense from other car manufacturers. For now speculators drive the Tesla stock much higher. But even if the stock is included in the S&P 500, after such a big stock rally, who will drive the stock price higher? I do not own or have sold any shares of Tesla, but this stock has moved too fast and too high without any solid fundamental reason.

The latest stock market news on July 16, 2020. “Stocks fell on Thursday as shares of the major tech companies struggled once again and traders digested a mixed batch of corporate earnings and economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 135.39 points, or 0.5%, to 26,734.71 and snapped a four-day winning streak. The S&P 500 slid 0.3% to 3,215.57 and the Nasdaq Composite pulled back 0.7% to close at 10,473.83. Shares of Microsoft and Apple fell more than 1% each. Amazon dipped 0.3%. Netflix — which was set to report earnings after the bell — erased earlier losses and gained 0.8%. The streaming giant’s stock dropped more than 11% after hours on the back of its results. Big Tech has been the best-performing group in the stock market this year as investors bet their business models could withstand the coronavirus economic slowdown. However, they have struggled this week. Netflix is down more than 3% week to date; Facebook, Amazon, Alphabet and Microsoft are also down over that time period.” Stock market data: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/15/stock-market-futures-open-to-close-news.html Stock market close on July 16, 2020 S&P 500: 3,215.57,-10.99(-0.34%)Dow 30: 26,734.71,-135.39(-0.50%)Nasdaq: 10,473.83,-76.66(-0.73%)Russell 2000: 1,465.86,-12.41(-0.84%) Stock market volatility The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) at the close was little changed, at 28.00+0.24 (+0.86%). Stock trading There are many stock trading tips, stock investing advice for prudent trading and not just gambling or speculating. Whether you trade the stock market, the forex market or any other financial market, our stock trading top tip is : do not chase the market. Stock trading fomo effect The fomo effect (fear or missing out) when trading stocks, equities amplifies in almost all cases bubbles in financial assets, and prices get disconnected from their fundamentals. Take for example the Tesla stock, today it is up to 942.31+83.91 (+9.78%). The reason is that some analyst hiked its priced target. This is not the best time to trade the Tesla stock as a huge rally has already taken place. It is too risky. If you add the fact that Tesla stock to our financial analysis is way too overvalued, then this game trading stocks like Tesla is just speculation. Stocks to buy, stocks to sell There are always opportunities about stocks to buy, stocks to sell. The fomo effect is too dangerous and is a behavioral bias in investing and trading. Apply risk management, fundamental analysis and use technical analysis to buy stocks with good fundamentals which are undervalued, sell overvalued stocks, or do not just get carried away buying stocks because they move up, for no obvious reason, not a catalyst or something related to financial results and performance.
